WELCOME TO OUR BEE LOUD PROJECT LAUNCH!

We began our journey to create this project in collaboration with Community artist, Veronika Straberger, in May, 2019. The school was given the opportunity to work with Veronika as part of the Artists in Schools Scheme funded and organised by Galway County Council. The school had seen a lot of turmoil the previous years as the Galway to Limerick Motorway was built right in front of our doorsteps. We were therefore looking for a project to revitalise our local landscape. Veronika proposed to let ourselves BEE inspired and together we developed a series of workshops with a variety of experts to give our students a creative learning experience focusing on fostering and encouraging the growth of a biodiversity rich habitat that would heal the wounds of the land caused by the Motorway building works. With the upcoming celebrations on the nomination of Galway 2020 Capital of Culture we proposed our ideas to the event organisers who became a supportive ally to our work and included us in their Small Towns Big Ideas programme.

To commemorate our project we have documented our creative learning journey with this video. We hope it gives you an insight into the entire process and extent of the work. We have all been quite the busy bees over the past 2 years and hope you enjoy our film and are inspired to join the buzz to Bee awareness.

We would like to say a big Thank You to Edel Leech, our principal whose energy and dynamism was crucial throughout this project. Her ambition to provide the best learning opportunities for the children of Kiltiernan NS was the bedrock of this project and all the work of this school. Without the energy, teamwork and enthusiasm of Emer O'Doherty and Deirdre Forde and all our staff, this project could not have happened. Finally a big Thank You  to Bríd Fenlon, Deputy Vice Principal, who took on the enormous task of Project Coordinator. Bríd kept us all going with her passion, enthusiasm and care even in times when we were close to losing heart during the pandemic - She kept us Buzzing!

We would also like to Thank Our Partners for all their support in creating an enriching and inspiring learning experience for us all.

We Thank all the Bees and Pollinating Insects for all the food they provide for us and the many lessons we have learned from them about the role we play in our planet's ecosystem!

We are especially proud of all the Children of Kiltiernan NS who have grown so much over the past two years and have become such fabulous artists, innovative poets and passionate climate activists! They inspire us "grown-ups" every day!

This project has taught us that there can be a bright future, if we make it so.

Join the Buzz,

with love from all at Kiltiernan NS
